FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Contrary to some manufacturer's claims, electronic cigarettes are not a WHO (World Health Organization) endorsed smoking cessation device.

Twisp can at best be described as a harm reduction strategy until tests can prove its safety and efficacy. However there is no denying that if you are using Twisp and not smoking cigarettes you are already a non-smoker.

What is in it?

Twisp electronic cigarettes do not burn tobacco. The vapour you are inhaling is free of hazardous smoke particulates, tar and carcinogenic compounds produced when tobacco and additives are burned.

Instead the liquid (Propylene Glycol, Water, flavour and nicotine) in the cartridge is atomized, and then vapourised into a dense mist, which looks and tastes very similar to smoke.

Propylene Glycol, is a common food grade additive, generally regarded as safe by the FDA (GRAS) and is used to suspend flavour and create the simulated smoke. It is also found in toothpaste, mouthwash and as a humectant in tobacco products (keeps tobacco moist).

Nicotine itself isn't carcinogenic (a cancer causing agent) nor does not have any mutagenic properties.

Nicotine is an alkaloid found in certain plants, predominantly tobacco, and in much lower quantities in tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and green peppers.

Twisp also contains a safety mechanism to prevent the user inhaling more than 15 times in a minute. (Device shuts down and LED flashes for a short period of time)

Back to Questions

Back to Questions

Can I use Twisp to stop smoking?

Twisp is a cigarette simulator and marketed as a smoking alternative. It is not currently an endorsed smoking cessation device.

Back to Questions

I have found a cheap ecigarette on the internet, what makes Twisp special?

Twisp has partnered with Dutch manufactrer Janty, to produce our electronic cigarettes. Janty has consistently been recognised as the leading and most advanced producer of e-cigs on the international market. Twisp has the exlusive rights to market and distribute Janty products within Africa.

There are many companies in China marketing generic products, these however do not reflect the state of the art, and do not benefit from R&D and customer support that Janty and Twisp provide.

See below links for informative and impartial reviews from the established international community.

Back to Questions

How does it work?

In essence Twisp is a miniature personal atomiser which heats the ingredients to their point of vaporisation.  When someone puffs the Twisp, a flow sensor activates the rechargeable lithium polymer battery, which starts the process of atomizing, heating and evaporation, creating a thick vapour "smoke" which tastes and looks just like the real thing.

Back to Questions

How long do the cartridges last?

  • Electronic cigarette smokers are no longer compelled to smoke the entire cigarette, so about 10 puffs is the average use.
  • For the "mini" cartridges last between 10-15 cigarettes, the classic carts last between 30-40 cigarettes.
  • Liquids last about 300-400 cigarettes per 10ml and the cigars between 1800-2000 puffs or 200 cigarettes.

Back to Questions

I am having trouble fitting a cartridge to my new Twisp "mini"

The Twisp mini is made up of 3 parts:

  1. Battery (white part)
  2. Atomiser (silver part)
  3. Cartridge (Yellow/orange part)

The mini is shipped with a blank cartridge already attached to the atomiser. This can and should be removed once the atomiser has been screwed into the battery and pulled off with a slight twist motion. Keep this blank cartridge in case you wish to use your Twisp mini with the available liquids. (called drip smoking)

Once you have removed the blank; open a fresh cartridge, remove the rubber stopper and pace the open end over the back of the silver atomiser. Push down firmly to ensure the cartridge is fully engaged to the atomiser.

Back to Questions

Can I choose what cartridges come with my device?

Yes you can, just stipulate which flavours and strengths you prefer in the comments field on checkout page.

Back to Questions

How much will I save?

The average 20 a day smoker will spend roughly R8000 per year on cigarettes (not including accessories, chewing gum and dry cleaning) that converts to just under R700 per month! The Twisp should have paid for itself after 6-8 weeks. Not to mention all the other benefits of not smoking.

Back to Questions

How do I use the electronic cigarette liquids?

Twisp liquids can be used either to refill your existing or blank cartidges (this saves you money), or by dripping directly on the atomiser (drip smoking) This creates a superior amount of flavour and vapour not attaintable with the cartridges alone. This is done by dripping some of the Twisp liquid onto the stainless steel mesh coil above the atomiser. 2-3 drops should be enough, redo once vapor diminishes.

Back to Questions

Is there a guarantee on the device?

Yes, Twisp is guaranteed for 3 months against defective parts and workmanship, see warranty page on this site. Your device is also guaranteed from being D.O.A (Dead on arrival), return within 7 days for immediate replacement.

Back to Questions

Are there any special instructions for the batteries?

Similar to a cell phone, Twisp batteries require a deep cycle charge before first use 8 hours or overnight. After which 1-3 hours will completely charge the battery (depending on model, please see accompanying instruction booklet).

Back to Questions

Sometimes I get a little of the liquid in my mouth, how do I avoid that?

During transport some liquid may have moved into the inhalation chamber within the cartridge.
After installing a fresh cartridge, turn the cigarette upside down (filter up) and shake for 10 seconds. Then take small puffs until you are confident that the liquid has passed back into the atomization chamber. If you are using the liquids to refill your cartridges, do not overfill, use 3-4 drops for the mini carts, or 10-12 drops from the classic.

Back to Questions

Can anyone use Twisp?

Twisp is only intended for smokers with a pre-existing nicotine addiction. It is also not recommended for pregnant or lactating women, or those sensitive to nicotine or propylene glycol. It is not for sale to children under the age of 18.

Back to Questions

Are there any side effects?

Propylene glycol is hygroscopic (attracts water), some people report dryness of the throat for the first few days.

Back to Questions

Does the vapour smell or stain like tobacco smoke?

No. For the first few seconds of exhalation there may be a slight scent from the flavouring in the vapour, but it disappears almost instantly. The exhaled water vapour will not stain teeth or fabric.

Back to Questions

Do I have to purchase the Twisp liquids to refill my cartridges.

No, The starter packs ship with 5 free cartridges, you can continue to use replacement cartridges or you may opt to use the liquids to refill them or blanks purchased from Twisp (saves money)
Some people use the liquid also to drip directly on the atomiser to create a superior amount of vapor. This is called "Drip smoking". Please only use Twisp brand liquids for this purpose as damage from using non-Twisp refills will void your warranty.
